The first, the Market Communications Plan, deals only with communications elements. These include objectives, strategies and tactics related to advertising, branding, budgets, co-op programs, database marketing (electronic newsletters sent to email addresses, USPS direct mail), Internet Web sites, media (broadcast, print, outdoor, specialty, etc.), merchandising, packaging, product positioning, promotions, public relations, sales data, target audience, trade shows, etc.

The second, the Strategic Market Plan, is all inclusive, that is, it contains everything in the Market Communications Plan, plus SWOT results and additional information on the four Ps (Product, Price, Promotion, Place) objectives, strategies and tactics. In addition, 3-dimensional perceptual mapping, competitive information, sales/transactions/profit analyses, demand analysis, etc.
